Blanton’s Bourbon & Rock Hill Farms Bourbon & Elmer T. Lee Bourbon Bundle Blanton’s is distilled by Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, Kentucky. Blanton’s bourbon is distilled from a “high-rye” mash bill — meaning after the higher proportion of corn common in Buffalo Trace bourbons, the rest (or much of the rest) of the mash bill is made up of rye. Wheated whiskies like Weller Special Reserve, tend to be softer, a kick of rye in a mash bill tends to produce a bit more in the way of fruit and spice in the whiskey, which play nicely with caramel and char. Though it’s worth noting that the final flavor profile varies from barrel to barrel with this American bourbon.

Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon tasting notes: A deep, satisfying nose of nutmeg and spices. Powerful dry vanilla notes in harmony with hints of honey amid strong caramel and corn. A medium finish composed of returning corn and nutmeg flavors.

Rock Hill Farms Single Barrel Bourbon

Named for a stretch of rich farmland along the Kentucky River, Rock Hill Farms is a fine single barrel bourbon. The limestone waters of the Kentucky River that wind through Bluegrass country and alongside infamous Buffalo Trace Distillery nourish the land and provide the distinct flavor to Rock Hill Farms Whiskey.

Each bottle of Rock Hill Farms Bourbon is aged about 8 years in a single, new, charred American oak barrel, and is bottled in bond at a robust 100 proof. Made from a mash bill of corn and malted barley, as well as more rye than typical bourbons, Rock Hill Farms Bourbon has a bit of spice to go along with its sweet notes of toasted nuts, fruit, chocolate and marshmallow. The bourbon finishes extremely smooth, with a lingering sweetness.

When drinking this delicious American bourbon you’ll find spicy notes of toasted nuts, fruit, chocolate and marshmallow, with a hint of tobacco and caramel. A silky-smooth finish ends with a lingering sweetness rounds out this whiskey.

Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon

Named after Master Distiller Emeritus Elmer T. Lee at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, this American whiskey is hand selected and bottled to the taste and standards which were set forth by Elmer T. Lee. He was often credited with starting the revival of single barrel bourbons in the 1980s while Master Distiller of the George T. Stagg Distillery, now known as Buffalo Trace.  Even after his retirement in 1985, he still visited the distillery weekly to select the barrels that would be bottled for his self-named Elmer T. Lee bourbon.  He continued that practice until his passing in 2013 at the age of 93. This Kentucky bourbon is a perfectly balanced and rich whiskey, as declared by the man who knew how great bourbon should taste. Elmer was responsible for bringing Blanton’s to market and was eventually honored by Buffalo Trace Distillery with this single barrel bourbon.

The bourbon itself is 90 proof, and shares its mash recipe with such stalwarts as Blanton’s, Rock Hill Farms, Ancient Age, and Hancock’s Reserve. Elmer T. Lee bourbon features an appearance of golden amber. It’s aroma is that of strong vanilla and sweet caramel which are followed by light berries, apricot, and peaches. There is a bit of oak on the tail end.

Flavors of maple syrup and caramel are the stories on the tip on the tongue.  Buffalo Trace has coaxed the sweetness from the barrel very well here.  There is a rush of vanilla on the edges of the palate here, with floral notes as well. Underlying all of that is a the crisp, clear spring water mouth feel that marks so many of Buffalo Trace’s premium offerings.

A finish that is long and sweet; light barrel flavors assert themselves near the end with a pleasing mix of oak and tannins, with a burnt sugar and caramel tinge.
